The Korean aviation industry said on Friday that it will reduce fuel surcharges on international routes starting next month to reflect the recent drop in aviation fuel prices. A Korean Air spokesperson said that from June 1, depending on the route, the company's one-way ticket surcharges for international routes will be reduced from the current 21,000 to 161,000 won to 18,200 to 144,400 won (about 13 US dollars to 106 US dollars). Korea's second-largest airline, Asiana Airlines, said it will reduce the surcharge for its international routes from the current 23,000 to 125,800 won to 206,000 to 114,400 won. Korean Air and Asiana Airlines said fuel surcharges for domestic routes will remain at the current level of 12,200 won next month. Jeju Air and other low-cost carriers are also planning to charge the same surcharges on domestic routes.
