Amazon Web Services (AWS) said on Wednesday that it plans to invest 7.8 billion euros (US$8.44 billion) in Germany by 2040 to build cloud computing infrastructure specifically for Europe. The new investment will provide an average of 2,800 full-time jobs for local German companies each year. AWS announced last year that it plans to store data on servers located in the European Union to protect data privacy for government and highly regulated industry customers. The company said it will launch several data centers in the German state of Brandenburg by the end of 2025, which will be open to all customers. Last week, AWS also said it would help Deutsche Telekom move 1 million 5G customers to its cloud platform starting later this month.
