On April 18-19, 2024, the International Monetary Fund (hereinafter referred to as the IMF) held the 49th International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meeting in Washington, D.C., USA. The meeting discussed topics such as the global economic and financial situation and the work of the IMF. Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People's Bank of China, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Deputy Governor Xuan Changneng of the People's Bank of China attended the meeting. According to the conference, the global economy is showing resilience and is expected to achieve a soft landing, but the recovery is still uneven among countries. Current work focuses on achieving price stability, strengthening fiscal sustainability, maintaining financial stability, and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The meeting reaffirmed its support for a strong, share-based, and well-resourced IMF as the core of the global financial safety net, and called on the IMF Executive Board to establish overall arrangements to guide share adjustments by June 2025, including agreeing on a new quota formula. The meeting supported the IMF in continuing to help member countries deal with debt risks, welcomed recent progress in debt treatment for low-income countries, and looked forward to reviewing and improving the IMF and World Bank debt sustainability analysis frameworks for low-income countries.
