From April 13 to 16, the 2nd “Hong Kong International Innovation and Technology Fair” was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The Hong Kong Generative AI Research & Development Center (HKGAI) showcased 10 self-developed generative artificial intelligence services and applications to the public for the first time at the exhibition site. Guo Yike, executive vice-chancellor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and director of the HKGAI Center, told Interface News: “HKGAI's first basic model for autonomous training has been initially completed. It supports Chinese and English. It is the first self-developed basic model in the region, pioneering a new milestone in artificial intelligence innovation for Hong Kong.” According to reports, HKGAI was established in October 2023 to focus on research and development of generative artificial intelligence technology. It is one of the R&D centers under InnoHK, a key project of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
