According to the Shanghai Securities Report, Zhao Xing, deputy director of the National Intelligence Evaluation and Governance Research Center at Fudan University and dean of the Metaverse and Fict-Reality Interaction Joint Research Institute, explained at the “First Scientist, Entrepreneur, and Investor Forum 2022” held on December 9 that in terms of exploring the metaverse, the world has three different paths.

The first metaverse is centered on a digital twin. Its main goal is to replicate reality and create a twin world that illuminates the real world like a mirror. The industrial metaverse or industrial internet focuses on this path.

The second path is something like Meta and Roblox games, with the goal of creating a purely virtual online digital space.

The third path is a platform for studying the interaction between the virtual world and the real world. The focus is on superimposing augmented reality from the perspective of the real economy, that is, exploring the metaverse from the real economy and the consumer circuit. The main application directions are consumption, commerce, entertainment, education, cultural tourism, etc.

Zhao Xing believes that China is currently mainly promoting the first and third paths.
