According to the Securities Times, behind the “cabbage price” of LCD TVs being sold is the ever-falling panel price. Over the past few years, panel prices have often “bumped” up and down on a roller coaster, moving from one cycle to another, and are currently in the midst of a severe downward cycle. From September of last year to October of this year, LCD panel prices have been falling for 15 months in a row, and almost all major specification products have fallen below the total cost price. Under tremendous pressure, panel manufacturers were only able to “cut production and save themselves”. Panel prices finally stopped falling and rebounding in late October. This may be a sign that this cycle is bottoming out.
